The Why, Where and When

In May 2011 my daughter, Judith Prays, suggested that we do some Torah study together. It was an exciting proposition for me. Undeterred by ...

6. Bereishit - Toledot (Generations)

in which Isaak marries Rebecca and they both pray for a child and get Esau and Jacob. Isaak lives in exile, becomes wealthy and gains respect of king Abimelech. Esau sells his birthright for a bowl of stew and then has Isaak"s blessing stolen from him by Jacob. Isaak and Rebecca send Jacob off with a strong admonition not to marry a canaanite girl.

How bad is Esau, really?

Esau is no saint, his sins  - notorious.
His birthright - hard to defend or explain.

But the history is written by the victorious.
The vanquished is always painted villain.

Imagine, how much blackest black we would have worn.
Posthumously. How much muckiest muck.
If Hitler, God forbid, had better luck.
